Easter-egg decorating

Easter-egg decorating Decorating eggs at Easter time is an old Bukovinian tradition that has survived despite the continuous changes inherent to the modern world. There still are plenty of people in the area who are excited to take this art further, carefully and lovingly passing it on to their children, in order to ensure its preservation.
The color red is used extensively by the egg decorators in their tiny works of art. It symbolizes the purifying fire, and the locals believe that the redness of the painted eggs will protect them from the Devil. They use a great variety of interesting tools and materials, such as small glass beads. The motifs can be just as unexpected: from geometric shapes to depictions of plants and animals, from religious to traditional figures.
